A method for producing fluorine-functionalized graphite or graphene is described. According to this method, graphite is broken into small pieces, and allowed to react with a surrounding substance containing fluorine or a fluorocarbon compound. This method enables the production of fluorine-functionalized graphite or graphene, which cannot be achieved by traditional mechanochemical methods. Moreover, this method is carried out in a very simple and economical manner, making it suitable for large-scale production.
