“This invention describes novel C5 benzothiazyl sulphone compounds having an acetal protective group, their manufacturing method, and a method for preparing apo-carotene dialdehyde compounds with a polyene dialdehyde structure efficiently. Additionally, an efficient method is provided for the preparation of lycopene by olefination (Julia-Kocienski) between apo-carotene dialdehyde compound (C20 crocetene dialdehyde) and C10 benzothiazyl geranyl sulphone.”
